leon posterFirst I should probably introduce myself. I’m smellygruby, and as those who frequent the forums will know, I’m a moderator there. ReeGed’s lettin me do a sort of “guest” staff pick so I present you all with the astonishingly unknown/unappreciated Léon. I’d heard about this film from a couple of friends who had mentioned that I needed to see this. It looked interesting but I never got around to doing anything about it until the the other day when I realised that Luc Besson (the guy who wrote and directed one of my all-time favourites The Fifth Element) wrote and directed it. Then I remembered he also did Banlieu 13 and Taxi, my two favourite French films so needless to say, I grabbed this release the next second, and if thats not all, an 8.6 on IMDB with over 160,000 votes should tell you a good times viewing is in store, regardless of whether you’re a Besson fan or not.

Quality: Perfect DVDRip here and of the directors 133min cut too

Synopsis: Mathilda, a twelve-year old New York girl, is living an undesirable life among her half-family. Her father stores drugs for two-faced cop Norman Stansfield. Only her little brother keeps Mathilda from breaking apart. One day, Stansfield and his team take cruel revenge on her father for stretching the drugs a little, thus killing the whole family. Only Mathilda, who was out shopping, survives by finding shelter in Léon’s apartment in the moment of highest need. Soon, she finds out about the strange neighbour’s unusual profession - killing - and desperately seeks his help in taking revenge for her little brother. Léon, who is completely unexperienced in fatherly tasks, and in friendships, does his best to keep Mathilda out of trouble - unsuccessfully. Now, the conflict between a killer, who slowly discovers his abilities to live, to feel, to love and a corrupt police officer, who does anything in his might to get rid of an eye witness, arises to unmeasurable proportions - all for the sake of a little twelve-year old girl, who has nearly nothing to lose.
